Dzongdrakha Goemba — a cluster of cliffside temples above the Paro valley, the gentler companion to Tiger's Nest.

• Getting there

  Dzongdrakha is above Bondey village in the lower Paro valley, a short drive from Paro town towards the Chele La road. From the road head, an easy walk of 20–30 minutes through fields and pine leads up to the cliff terrace. The matched guide arranges the walk and the timing.

• The walk

  Unlike Taktsang, the approach is gentle — a gradual path rather than a sustained climb — and suitable for most fitness levels, including older travellers and families with children. Sturdy walking shoes are enough; no special equipment is needed. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the round walk and the shrine visits.

• Dress and protocol

  Standard temple protocol — shoulders and knees covered, hats and shoes removed before entering the shrines, no photography inside the temples (the exterior and the cliff setting are freely photographable). The shrines are active places of worship cared for by resident caretakers; the quiet, respectful register applies.

• Best time to visit

  Year-round, with spring (March–May, apple blossom in the lower valley) and autumn (September–November, clear skies) the most rewarding. The lower-valley elevation means Dzongdrakha is comfortable even in the colder months when the higher Taktsang climb is harder.
