A sample shape of the week

1. Day 1

   Arrival in Paro — settled in by mid-afternoon

   Met in the arrivals hall, twenty minutes to the lodge, a quiet first walk along the Pa Chhu if the light holds.

2. Day 2

   Paro day — Rinpung Dzong in the morning light

   The principal Paro dzong in early-morning calm; Ta Dzong (the National Museum) in the late morning; an afternoon at Kyichu Lhakhang.

3. Day 3

   Across to Thimphu — the capital at its quietest hours

   The Pa Chhu valley to the capital; the National Memorial Chorten in the early evening when the elderly pilgrims circumambulate; an early dinner.

4. Day 4

   Over Dochu La — into Punakha

   The 3,100-metre pass and the 108 chortens at dawn; the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang; descent into the warm Punakha valley; Punakha Dzong in late-afternoon light at the confluence.

5. Day 5

   A day in Punakha — Chimi Lhakhang and the rice paddies

   Lobesa's terraced rice fields in their first green; the Drukpa Kunley temple; a long riverside lunch; the suspension bridge when the wind has dropped.

6. Day 6

   Back to Paro — ahead of Taktsang

   The drive back over the pass; Kyichu Lhakhang in the afternoon; an early night with the climb briefed by your guide.

7. Day 7

   The Tiger's Nest — slowly, the right way

   Switchbacks paced by your guide; lunch at the cafeteria; a hot stone bath at the lodge for the descent.

8. Day 8

   Departure from Paro

   Breakfast at the lodge, the guide walks you back to the terminal, the team writes a fortnight later.
