An ancient temple
Konchogsum Lhakhang is among the oldest temples of Bumthang, its origins traditionally traced to the early centuries of Buddhism in the Himalaya, when the first temples were raised across the valley. The name refers to the Three Jewels — the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha — the foundations of the Buddhist refuge. Restored and rebuilt across the centuries, it became bound up with the legend of Pema Lingpa (1450–1521), the great Bumthang-born treasure-revealer whose presence runs through the whole valley, and it holds old and venerated images. It stands near Jakar, close to the main cluster of Bumthang's great temples, a quiet repository of the valley's deepest religious history.
