Should we route through Doha, Singapore, Bangkok, or Delhi?

All four work from London. Bangkok (Thai or via Singapore-Singapore) is the most premium hub-experience. Singapore is the cleanest connection. Can we add a chartered helicopter for the Bumthang segment?

Yes — for milestone trips, a Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services charter from Paro to Bumthang (and return) is one of the upgrades available. It removes the two-day drive in each direction and adds the helicopter views of the central Bhutanese landscape. We quote separately; typical cost is USD 4,000–7,000 round trip depending on the season.

Can the trip be extended further east to Trashigang or Trashiyangtse?

Yes — the full east-to-west traverse adds five to seven nights and is a expedition. The eastern dzongkhags are quieter, the lodges more modest, and the road days longer. We do recommend the eastern extension for travellers with time and substantial interest in the broader country; we discuss whether it suits in the consultation.

How does the hub-stopover work?

You book the hub hotel directly — typically via the property's own reservations or via your travel agent. Why ten nights, and what the milestone wants

The trip that marks a particular year asks something different of a destination than a holiday does. A fiftieth birthday or a retirement is a doorway into the second half of a life, and the kind of travel it rewards is the sort — the days that move slowly, the places that ask for attention, the conversation in the evening that you'd remember in five years. Bhutan does this well. Ten nights is the right amount of time to cover the principal Bhutan, the high Phobjikha valley, and the deeper religious circuit at Bumthang without rushing any of it. The first three days handle the long-haul recovery and the cultural orientation; the middle four take you through the principal sites at proper pace; the last three are at Bumthang where the country's religious-historical depth concentrates.

The London routing

London Heathrow to Paro is a trip — typically eighteen to twenty-one hours including the one-stop connection at Delhi, Bangkok, Singapore, or Doha. We recommend a hub-stopover night on the outbound leg for milestone travellers — particularly for those approaching their sixties — at one of the premium hub properties we know well: the Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, or Aman Nai Lert in Bangkok; the Raffles, Capella, or Six Senses Maxwell in Singapore; the Aman or Four Seasons in Doha. The hub hotel is your booking, on your terms; we recommend, brief, and coordinate the Paro morning timing so the next day's flight is calm. The return is straightforward — Paro to your hub on the morning service; one night to settle; the long-haul home.

An excursion to Mebar Tsho (the Burning Lake) for the Pema Lingpa treasure-revelation; Ugyen Choling Palace if the time allows; the late afternoon at the lodge.

Back to Paro — internal flight or the road back
